Alternative Education Primary & Secondary
Changing lives - small steps...
Our work is always issue based and offers an alternative, but effective approach, where other more conventional methods may not have succeeded.
The Mane works via learning “by doing” and benefits young people open to the idea of horses, animals and the outdoors.
What we do
Working one-to-one, or in small groups, The Mane offers qualification and non qualification programmes.
We provide alternative education and life skills for young people struggling in mainstream education or who have disengaged with education completely due to social/emotional difficulties.

Our aim is to raise the aspirations and lived experience of young people and adults who are vulnerable, at risk and struggling with poor mental health.

What happens in a session?

Sessions are tailored to meet the needs of each individual and can be arranged on days and at times to suit you. Courses run during term-time and in the holidays.
Sessions need to be booked in advance and can be organised on a one-to-one or small group basis. We will help you to plan the length and number of sessions. We understand that everyone is different and we will do everything we can to accommodate your requirements.
There are lots of activities involving the horses, Equine Assisted Therapy and Learningfrom approaching one in a field to grooming and leading. Other activities include crafts, clothing printing and embroidery, land management, fencing and eparing food for yourself or the horses!

We liaise with schools, teachers and health professionals as necessary and provide written reports for you should you need them.
